IPS Alpha to Begin Construction on LCD Module Plant in Malaysia
November 14, 2008
Panasonic-Hitachi joint venture IPS Alpha Technology announced on November 12 that it will soon begin construction on an LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) module plant in Malaysia, according to Reuters. Located at an existing Panasonic LCD TV assembly plant in Selangor, the 900 million Yen (US$9.27 million; US$1=97.11 Yen) plant is slated to start production in February 2009. Monthly output is estimated at 50,000 units initially and is expected to increase to 250,000 units eventually. The new Malaysia facility will be IPS Alpha's second overseas LCD module plant after its Czech Republic plant, which commenced operations in the second half of 2007.
