Chinese mobile phone manufacturer Wingtech Group officially kicked off production at its Jiaxing base in Zhejiang Province on November 2, China Business News reported. Wingtech's Jiaxing base covers an area of over 200 acres and involves an investment of approximately US$70 million. It is reported that the initial-phase facility will consist mainly of SMT (Surface Mount Technology) and assembly lines, with a planned annual output of some 30 million units and shipment value of about 10 billion RMB (US$1.46 billion; US$1=6.83 RMB). Wingtech also expects to offer mobile phone and peripheral accessory manufacturing services at the Jiaxing base. Planning for the second-phase facility, which is envisaged to include an LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) production line, is currently underway.
