Nokia Siemens Opens New Plant Near Chennai, India

Nokia Siemens Networks recently announced that it has opened a new manufacturing plant at Oragadam near Chennai, India, which will manufacture and distribute mobile communications equipment, Nikkei Electronics Asia reported on October 22. The plant is valued at approximately US$70 million, generating around 400 new jobs. Deliverables include mobile base station controllers, Flexi EDGE BTS (Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution Base Station Transceiver), microwave radio and access line-card products, and other telecom equipment.

Aside from the Oragadam plant, the company also has another plant located in Kolkata, eastern India, which manufactures fixed network equipment, according to a report by Reuters.
