China Telecom to Start CDMA2000 Trial in Beijing by Year-end 2008
October 26, 2008
China Telecom recently announced that the company is ready to upgrade its CDMA networks to CDMA2000 and plans to launch an internal trial for CDMA2000 networks in Beijing by year-end 2008 before commercialization, Beijing Daily reported on October 23. Equipment for use in Beijing CDMA2000 networks is provided by Huawei and other indigenous brands. Most CDMA mobile phones currently in use already support CDMA2000, and thus subscribers can access CDMA2000 networks by means of their existing CDMA phones without having to buy a new phone, according to the same source.
