ZTE Bags GSM Contract in India, Forges Partnership in Oman

China's ZTE has been awarded a GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) network infrastructure contract by Aircel in India, according to a Shanghai Daily report on October 13. Aircel is a subsidiary of Malaysia's Maxis Communications and currently has a subscriber base of 11 million in India. The contract awarded to ZTE is valued at US$400 million, requiring ZTE to provide mobile network equipment to Aircel.

Meanwhile, ZTE and Mazoon Mobile of the Sultanate of Oman have reached a cooperation agreement, whereby ZTE will supply its intelligent network platform to the mobile operator, according to Oman Daily Observer on October 14. Further details of the partnership are not yet available.
