IBM Inaugurates New R&D Lab in Shanghai
October 17, 2008
IBM announced on October 13 that it has opened a new R&D laboratory in Shanghai in a bid to strengthen its R&D operations in China and attract new talent from southern China, according to a press release by IBM. Located at Zhangjiang High-Tech Park in Pudong New Area, the new facility is an extension of the IBM China Research Laboratory, which was initially established in Beijing in 1995.

According to the same source, aside from its 200 R&D personnel based in Beijing, the IBM China R&D Laboratory in Shanghai is estimated to house a total of 100 personnel eventually. R&D operations to be covered in this new facility will primarily comprise information analytics, Web delivered service computing, cloud computing, and streaming computing. The amount of IBM's investment for the new facility was not yet known though.
