Sony to Acquire NEC's Entire Stake in ODD Venture Sony NEC Optiarc

Sony and NEC reached an agreement for Sony to acquire NEC's entire 45% stake in their ODD (Optical Disk Drive) joint venture Sony NEC Optiarc, Nikkei Electronics Asia reported on September 16. The joint venture, formed in April 2006, will become Sony's wholly-owned unit following the transaction. NEC is expected maintain its relationship with Sony NEC Optiarc via its own LSI (Large Scale Integration) development. Details regarding the price of the deal were not disclosed.
