LG Display, Taiwan's AmTRAN Propose LCD TV Venture in Suzhou, China

Korea's LG Display and Taiwan-based AmTRAN Technology, known for its Vizio-branded LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) TVs in the US market, are currently mulling an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturing)-based LCD TV venture in the Chinese city of Suzhou, Taiwan's Economic Daily News reported on August 12. According to said report, investments in the new plant - to be a 51-49 joint venture between LG Display and AmTRAN, respectively - will amount to approximately 80 billion Won (US$76.9 million; US$1=1039.8 Won).

It is further projected that the Suzhou venture will focus on the manufacturing of backlight modules, LCD modules, and LCD TVs measuring under 30 inches or priced under US$500. Both parent companies expect to commence production at the new plant by the end of the third quarter this year.
