SMIC, Telepath, Infineon Jointly Deliver CMMB-enabled Mobile TV Chip

Chinese semiconductor foundry SMIC recently announced that the company, Telepath - a fabless IC company - and German chip maker Infineon have jointly developed a CMMB (China Multimedia Mobile Broadcasting) -enabled mobile TV chip, codenamed TP3001, according to a press release by SMIC.
According to the same source, the new chip has been integrated into various mobile TV phones distributed during the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, enabling users to view up to seven TV channels. These phones support both TD-SCDMA and CMMB standards. By means of the TP3001 chip, a wide range of mobile devices, including mobile phones, PMPs (Portable Media Players), and portable electronic devices, can access digital TV programs on the move.
