Tianma Microelectronics to Build 4.5G TFT-LCD Panel Line in Chengdu, Sichuan

Chinese small- and medium-sized TFT-LCD (Thin Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Display) panel maker Tianma Microelectronics announced on July 23 a 4.5G TFT-LCD panel investment project in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, according to Economic Daily News of Taiwan. The overall investment is valued at around three billion RMB (US$439.4 million; US$1=6.8 RMB), to be shared among Tianma, Chendu Industry Investment Group, and Chendu Hi-tech Investment Group. Production capacity of Tianma's Chengdu 4.5G facility is projected at 30,000 units per month.
Earlier in March, BOE Technology Group also announced the commencement of construction on a 4.5G TFT-LCD panel line in Chengdu. Mass production at BOE's 4.5G line is slated for mid-2009, with a projected capacity of 30,000 units monthly, too, as reported in a previous Asia Express report dated March 28, 2008.
