Toshiba Matsushita Display Technology, a 60-40 joint venture between Toshiba and Matsushita Electric Industrial, has planned an investment of around 15.0 billion Yen (US$140.6 million; US$1=106.7 Yen) in mass production of OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) display panels, Reuters reported on July 22. The OLED panels manufactured by Toshiba Matsushita Display Technology will be 2.5-inch panels for use in mobile phones and other mobile devices. Production is slated to commence by the second half of 2009 at the venture's new OLED panel production lines in Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. Monthly capacity is estimated at one million units.
