Samsung Electronics, Samsung SDI to Set Up OLED JV

As part of Samsung Group's plan to overhaul the display business of its affiliates Samsung Electronics and Samsung SDI, the two companies plan to set up a joint venture for OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) panels, Korea's Yonhap News reported, adding that the new company will mainly produce AM-OLED (Active-Matrix OLED) panels for use in mobile phones and small portable TVs.

The joint venture, to be equally held by Samsung Electronics and Samsung SDI, is tentatively named Samsung Mobile Display. Final decision is expected to be reached by the end of July 2008, pending approval by the two companies' boards of directors, according to Yonhap News.
