July 11, 2008
LG Display of Korea recently shed light on plans to add a new 6G LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) panel production line in Gumi, Korea, Nikkei reported. LG plans to invest 1.361 trillion Won (US$1.364 billion; US$1=998 Won) in the new 6G line and expects to start mass production in the second quarter of 2009. 16:9 widescreen panels for notebook PCs and monitors are reportedly the main output of this new production line.

Meanwhile, LG also revealed that the company will start supplying 3.5-inch LCD panels for use in Apple's iPod products by year-end 2008. LG is currently seeking collaboration with Nokia, Motorola, and Sony Ericsson, too. LG expects to clinch small-sized LCD panel supply deal with at least one of said mobile phone makers.
