July 04, 2008
Israel-based mobile TV chip maker Siano Mobile recently announced that it has developed a new mobile digital TV receiver chip, codenamed SMS118X, which supports China's indigenous mobile TV standard, CMMB (China Mobile Multimedia Broadcasting). Siano aims to tap the surging demand in China's domestic mobile TV market, Nikkei Electronics Asia reported.
The new chip will be incorporated into mobile handheld devices to be used in the pilot launch of mobile TV in China, to be conducted in more than 30 cities during the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. China's mobile TV service is slated for full-scale commercialization in early 2009, no later than the Chinese New Year, also according to Nikkei Electronics Asia.
