AUO Confirms Plans to Build 10G or Newer-generation LCD Plant
June 13, 2008
Taiwan's AUO has confirmed reports that the company is set to build a 10G or newer-generation LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) panel plant, according to Economic Daily News of Taiwan. AUO is expected to spend roughly NT$100 billion (US$3.3 billion; US$1=NT$30.5) on this plant, which is likely to be located in Changhua County of central Taiwan.

Planned capacity of this plant is estimated at 30,000 glass substrates per month. Nevertheless, AUO is yet to decide on the size of glass substrate. According to United Daily News, AUO will probably adopt the size of 3000mmx3000mm, larger than Sharp's 10G 2880mmx3130mm LCD glass substrate. Construction on the plant is slated to begin in 2009, and production is projected to commence on a small scale in 2011.

Following AUO's announcement, Taiwan's CMO also revealed plans to build a 10G LCD panel plant in Kaohsiung. Initial investment is estimated at NT$100 billion (US$3.3 billion), too.
