Toppan Printing Aims to Triple Output of 5G LCD Color Filters in Taiwan

Toppan Printing of Japan revealed on May 29 plans to enhance its production capacity for 5G LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) color filters by threefold in Taiwan, Japan's Jiji Press reported.

According to the report, Toppan will invest 16.0 billion Yen (US$150.4 million; US$1= 106.4 Yen) in setting up a 5G color filter line at its Taiwan subsidiary Toppan CFI. Furthermore, the company has spent 12.0 billion Yen (US$112.8 million) acquiring a color filter plant of the now defunct Allied Material Technology. It is reported that both production lines will manufacture color filters for 5G LCD glass substrates measuring 1.1mx1.3m. All told, Toppan expects to triple its monthly color filter output in Taiwan to around 240,000 units in 2009.
