Foxconn Initiates New PC Production Projects in Europe

Previously in August 2007 Taiwanese EMS (Electronics Manufacturing Services) provider Foxconn and HP announced that they will build a PC and LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) monitor assembly plant in St. Petersburg, Russia, for US$50 million, and according to a recent St. Petersburg Times report, Foxconn has confirmed that the construction on said plant is due to begin on May 16. The new plant, which will initially manufacture notebook and desktop PCs for HP, is scheduled to begin operations in 2009, with a projected annual capacity of 20,000 units, according to the same report.

Meanwhile, according to European Plastic News, Foxconn recently revealed plans to add a new PC plant in the Czech Republic, via purchasing the operations of Taiwan-based FIC (First International Computer) in Rudna. The Rudna plant is expected to become Foxconn's third PC plant in the Czech Republic, following the ones in Pardubice and Kutna Hora. Further details were not yet disclosed.
