Hitachi Plans to Boost IPS LCD Panel Output by Fiscal 2009
May 16, 2008
Hitachi Displays announced on May 12 that the company plans to make an additional investment of approximately 8.1 billion Yen (US$77.0 million; US$1= 105.3 Yen) in boosting its output of small- and medium-sized IPS (In-Plane Switching) LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) panels, Nikkei Electronics reported. Hitachi expects to enhance its monthly capacity by 25% from 80,000 units in fiscal 2007 to about 100,000 units by fiscal 2009 ending in March 2010, in order to meet the rising demand for small- and medium-sized IPS LCD panels for use in 1seg mobile phones and digital SLR (Single Lens Reflex) cameras.
