Samsung, LG to Cross-purchase LCD Panels

Following the establishment of a strategic alliance on mobile DTV (Digital Television) standard for North America on May 14, leading Korean LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) panel makers Samsung and LG recently reached an agreement on cross-purchasing LCD panels for use in DTVs, Chosun Ilbo reported on May 16.
It is reported that the two companies began deliberating cooperation on LCD panel supply in as early as the fourth quarter of 2007 and announced the decision in Seoul on May 15. Pursuant to the agreement, Samsung will supply 52-inch LCD panels to LG, which will in return provide Samsung with 37-inch LCD panels through its subsidiary LG Display, according to the same report. Details regarding projected shipment volume and prices are scheduled to be finalized by July 2008, according to the Chosun Ilbo report.
