- Chinese TD-SCDMA chip design house Commit - a joint venture formed in 2002 by 17 companies including Potevio, Texas Instruments, Nokia, and LG - ceased production of TD-SCDMA chips on April 23 due to insufficient capital, Sina News reported. In addition, the company is expected to halt operations by the end of April, according to Chinese-language Sohu News. Other Chinese TD-SCDMA chip designers still in active operation include Datang Mobile, Spreadtrum, and T3G. However, China's TDIA (TD-SCDMA Industry Alliance) claimed that Commit is still seeking potential investors and its R&D operations are still underway, according to Sohu News.
- Chinese mobile phone maker Amoi's TD-SCDMA phone T5 has begun sales at the retail distribution channels in China, Sina News reported. Amoi's T5, a TD-SCDMA/GSM dual-mode phone, is reportedly the first TD-SCDMA terminal device available for end-users in the retail market and incorporates a wide range of 3G mobile phone features, including video telephony and video streaming.
