The Science Park Unit under Taiwan's National Science Council approved on April 22 Taiwanese TFT-LCD (Thin Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Display) panel maker Wintek Corporation's NT$5.0 billion (US$164.9 million; US$1=NT$30.3) investment project in the Kaohsiung Science Park, Taiwan's Economic Daily News report.

Wintek plans to obtain 12 hectares in the park for the establishment of a 4.5G TFT-LCD panel plant with a projected production capacity of 120,000 units per month, targeting consumer electronics applications. It is reported that Wintek is also considering setting up a CF (Color Filter) plant on the same premises. Overall investment is estimated to reach up to NT$30 billion (US$989.1 million) over the next few years with the construction of said facilities.
