AUO Founds LED Business Unit Lextar

Taiwan's AUO recently founded an LED (Light-Emitting Diode) business unit named Lextar in the Hsinchu Science Park, according to Taiwan's Economic Daily News. Lextar's operations are projected to encompass the entire LED production process, from upstream epitaxy wafer manufacturing, chip packaging, to downstream backlight unit assembly.

Lextar's first-year revenue is estimated at NT64.0 million (US$2.1 million; US$1=NT$30.3) in 2008. In 2010 the figure is projected to surpass NT$1,7 billion (US$56.1 million) and the company will start to make profits.
