TCL Plans to Reactivate Nanhai LCM Project in Guangdong Province

China's TCL recently revealed that the company plans to reactivate the suspended Nanhai LCM (Liquid Crystal Display Module) project in Foshan, Guangdong Province, according to China Times of China. Construction on the plant was slated to start by the end of March 2008.

Overall production capacity of TCL's Nanhai plant is projected to reach approximately 2.1 million units, for use in large-sized TVs measuring 56-inch and smaller as well as small- and medium-sized TVs measuring 42-inch and smaller. According to the China Times report, TCL expects to secure cooperation with six panel makers, including Sony, Sharp, LG, CPT, and CMO.

Meanwhile, TCL was expected to start construction on its LCM venture with Samsung by the end of March as well. The TCL-Samsung venture is located in Huizhou, Guangdong Province. With a total investment of 1.2 billion RMB (US$170.9 million; US$1=7.0 RMB), the Huizhou plant is designed with a maximum production capacity of eight million units.
