February 29, 2008
Motorola announced on February 25 that it has purchased the digital cable STB (Set Top Box) assets of Zhejiang Dahua Digital Technology and Hangzhou Image Silicon, according to China Business News. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed yet.
The privately-held cable STB manufacturer Dahua Digital will be integrated into Motorola's Home & Networks Mobility Business Department, and Motorola is expected keep Dahua Digital's operation base intact in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. Hangzhou Image Silicon, also based in Zhejiang Province, specializes in audio frequency processing and multimedia system chip design.
Via the acquisition deal, Motorola expects to obtain chipset solutions for its fast-growing digital STB business in China and lower the manufacturing costs in the region.
