Acer Finalizes Acquisition of 75% Stake in Packard Bell
February 05, 2008
According to a statement submitted to the TSEC (Taiwan Stock Exchange), Taiwan-based PC maker Acer has finalized the acquisition of a 75% stake in PB Holding, the parent company of Europe-based PC maker Packard Bell, Taiwan's Commercial Times reported.

It is reported that Acer has paid a total of 31 million Euros (US$45.9 million; US$1=0.7 Euro) for the stake. The deal was made possible by Acer's acquisition in August 2007 of US-based Gateway, which was entitled to the right of first refusal to acquire all the shares of PB Holding.

Reinforced by the alliance with Packard Bell, Acer is expected to boost its share in the global PC market and maintain its ranking as the third largest PC maker worldwide, further widening its lead over Chinese PC maker Lenovo.
