Toshiba Unveils Key Component Prototype for 15nm NAND Flash Chip
December 14, 2007
On December 12, Japanese Toshiba announced that it has developed a key component prototype for NAND flash memory chips based on 15nm process technology. Toshiba's new NAND flash technology enables a maximum memory capacity of 100GB, which is 10 times larger than flash memory chips currently available, Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported.
Toshiba's new memory chips are designed for application in consumer electronics such as digital cameras and MP3 players. Currently, mass production of the company's NAND flash memory chips is based on 56nm process technology.
According to Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Toshiba expects to debut its advanced 15nm NAND flash memory chip within the next four to five years.
