Alcatel-Lucent Signs Mobile Solution Deals with China Mobile, China Unicom

Following the network expansion agreements inked in May 2007, French Alcatel-Lucent announced on November 26 that it has signed further deals with the two Chinese mobile communications operators - China Mobile and China Unicom, respectively - to provide mobile services and solutions. Combined value of the deals stands at 750 million Euro (US$1.1 billion; US$1=0.67 Euro), according to Chinese-language Sina News.

The contracts that Alcatel-Lucent signed with China Mobile and China Unicom are valued at 600 million Euros (US$0.9 billion) and 150 million Euros (US$0.2 billion), respectively. Alcatel-Lucent will provide end-to-end mobile solutions for China Mobile to support China Mobile's network expansion project. The TD- SCDMA solution is also included in the contract.

Meanwhile, according to the contract with China Unicom, Alcatel-Lucent will provide a series of end-to-end solutions to meet China Unicom's demands for network deployment and capacity expansion. Also included in the deal is the 3G CDMA 1xEV-DO network upgrade service in Macao.

The two deals were obtained through Alcatel Shanghai Bell, Alcatel-Lucent's subsidiary in China. French President Nicolas Sarkozy and Chinese President Hu Jintao attended the signing ceremony in Beijing, Sina News reported.
