November 02, 2007
Taiwan-based CMO recently revealed plans to set up a second LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) panel production facility in the Nanhai district of Foshan, Guangdong province, China Business News reported. The investment, estimated at around US$30 million, is expected to be made via Nanhai Chimei Electronics, CMO's new subsidiary in China.

Earlier in October, CMO kicked off production at its first LCD panel production facility in Nanhai, namely the aforementioned Nanhai Chimei Electronics. Covering an area of more than 133 hectares, CMO's first Nanhai plant is projected to manufacture more than 10 million LCD panels in 2008, with an estimated shipment value of over US$2.5 billion. The Nanhai plant's output is expected to cover LCD panels sized 26-inch to 65-inch.

With the addition of a second plant, CMO expects to manufacture up to 20 million LCD panels per year at its Nanhai base.
