Acer-Gateway Deal Paves Way for Packard Bell Acquisition
November 02, 2007
Following the Acer-Gateway deal, Acer's Packard Bell acquisition deal through Gateway is expected soon to be realized, leveraging Gateway's preemptive rights to purchase Packard Bell.

In an Asia Express dated August 31, 2007, Acer was reported to have announced a US$710 million acquisition deal for Gateway, as well as a plan to buy out the shares of PB Holding, Packard Bell's parent company controlled by former eMachines founder John Hui. Financial details of this deal were not yet disclosed, according to EE Times.

The Acer-Gateway deal, originally scheduled to close by December 2007, had taken effect earlier than planned on October 16, 2007.

Through the Acer-Gateway deal, Acer not only is likely to further boost its presence in the North America PC market, but also is awarded a veto right over Lenovo's proposed acquisition of Packard Bell, according to analysis by MIC (Market Intelligence Center).
