Taiwan's YOI, Aptek Optical Reach Merger Deal

Taiwanese light engine maker YOI (Young Optics), a subsidiary of backlight unit maker Coretronics, announced on August 22 that it will merge with Aptek Optical, a Taiwanese optical lens maker specializing in aspherical optical technology. The merger, to be effective as of January 31, 2008, will be carried out through stock swap at a ratio of one YOI common share for 8.25 Aptek common shares. YOI will be the remaining company after the merger and is expected to tap the CCM (Compact Camera Module) market leveraging Aptek's technical know-how for applications in portable devices.
