Ericsson to Undertake Telecom Network Expansion Projects in Indonesia
August 10, 2007
Ericsson recently extended its collaboration with Indonesia's Indosat by forging a contract to expand the telecom's WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access)/HSPA (High-Speed Packet Access) network coverage in greater Jakarta. Under the terms of the contract, Ericsson will provide related equipment and undertake the task of network deployment. Via this project, Indosat expects to see its WCDMA radio network to be IP ready and achieve a data downlink speed of up to 14.4Mbps and an uplink speed of 1.8Mbps by year-end 2007.

In related news, Ericsson also won a three-and-a-half-year contract to expand another Indonesia telecom XL's GSM (Global System for Mobile communications)/GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) and WCDMA/HSPA networks. For XL's network expansion project, Ericsson is expected to deploy its Mobile Softswitch Solution and provide radio access network and MINI-LINK transmission equipment.
