ProMOS, Toppan Printing Team Up for CMOS Image Sensors
August 10, 2007
Taiwanese memory chip maker ProMOS announced on August 7 that it has inked a technology licensing agreement with Japanese Toppan Printing, whereby Toppan Printing will authorize ProMOS to leverage its CMOS (Complementary Metal-Oxide Semiconductor) CIS (Contact Image Sensor) process technology. Under the agreement, ProMOS will be able to tap Toppan's proprietary technologies for on-chip color filters and micro lenses. ProMos plans to manufacture CMOS image sensors at its first 12-inch chip plant in Hsinchu, Taiwan, and small-scale trial production is slated to begin in the fourth quarter of 2007. Also, pursuant to the terms of the agreement, ProMOS will become Toppan's CMOS image sensor supplier once it starts mass production.
