Samsung Inaugurates 12-inch Chip Plant in Texas

On June 14, 2007, Samsung announced the inauguration of its largest 12-inch NAND flash memory chip plant in Austin, Texas. Situated adjacent to its existing 8-inch chip plant, Samsung's new US$3.5 billion manufacturing facility covers an area of 1.6 million square feet. Slated to begin operations in the second half of this year, the plant will produce 16Gb NAND flash memory chips using 50nm process technology in the initial phase, with the aim to boost chip output to 60,000 units per month by 2008.
