Korea Plans to Implement Full Digitization of TV Broadcasting by 2012
June 01, 2007
Korea's Ministry of Information and Communication and Korea Broadcasting Commission recently announced their plan to devise a bill that will enforce full digitization of all terrestrial television broadcasting by the end of 2012. Over the course of the next five years, Korean television stations will be required to phase out their analog terrestrial broadcasting as well. The cost of the analog-to-digital transition is estimated at 2.35 trillion Won (US$2.52 billion; US$= 931.1 Won). A legislative outline of the transition will be proposed in July 2007.
