TCL Obtains Approval for LCD TV Dynamic Backlight Technology

China's Ministry of Information Industry recently approved of the enhanced dynamic backlight control technology for LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) TV digital video, self-developed by the TCL Industrial Research Institute. TCL's new technology features a maximum ratio of over 10000:1 in static contrast and 50000:1 in dynamic contrast. Also, power consumption can be reduced by more than 50% by this technology.
Meanwhile, TCL and Japan's Renesas have signed a licensing agreement for this dynamic backlight technology. Renesas, as the first licensee of this technology, is expected to utilize it in the manufacturing of video-processing SoC (System-on-Chip) core microprocessors.
