Sony to Exit Chip Development Alliance with NEC, Toshiba
April 13, 2007
Sony has decided to abandon the three-way alliance with NEC Electronics and Toshiba to develop advanced microchips following the expiry of the contract in March 2007, Kyodo News reported. The alliance was formed in February 2006 and successfully developed 45-nanometer process technology in December of the same year. As Sony is planning to outsource its semiconductor production, it will not renew the contract with its partners in the chip development alliance.
