Matsushita to Increase FPTV Production in Russia, India
March 03, 2007
Matsushita plans to more than triple its FPTV (Flat-Panel Television) production in emerging markets such as Russia and India starting from summer 2007, the Nikkei reported. In order to meet strong demand in Russia, Matsushita plans to start assembling PDP (Plasma Display Panel) TVs locally, with an annual output of 300,000 units. The assembly is expected to be outsourced to a local partner, likely located in Kaliningrad.

Matsushita also expects to shrink CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) TV production at an India facility and transfer the capacity to LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) TV production instead. The annual output is projected to reach approximately 30,000 units, all aimed at the local market.
