China Issues Four New Manufacturing Licenses for GSM Mobile Phones

China's National Development and Reform Commission recently announced to issue four new manufacturing licenses for GSM mobile phones. The batch of new makers includes Shenzhen Boway Electronics, Shenzhen Elitek Communication Devices, Shanghai Sunrise Technology, and Shenzhen Gaoke Times Electronics. Both Sunrise and Elitek are expected to invest approximately 100 million RMB (US$12.9 million; US$1 = 7.7 RMB) in related operations and achieve a production capacity of more than one million units each. Boway is expected to roll out GSM models under its eponymous brand, and Gaoke will launch a new GSM series under its GETEK brand.
