Japanese Softbank Telecom, Hitachi, and Fujitsu recently announced that they have co-developed new electronic papers with built-in WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) capability. Under the tie-up, Softbank will establish WLAN base stations for the e-paper, with Hitachi and Fujitsu offering display technology support. The new invention, with identification capability, is scheduled to be commercialized within three years.
