Canon to Roll Out SED TV by Late 2007

As a follow up to an Asia Express dated January 19, Canon announced on January 29 that it has completed the buyout of SED Inc., from Toshiba for approximately ten billion yen (US$=82.8 million ; US$1 = 120.1 Yen). Through the buyout, the company stated it hopes to realize the commercialization of flat-screen TVs based on SED (Surface-conduction Electron-emitter Display) technology by the fourth quarter of 2007. Furthermore, Canon has announced that it plans to start SED panel production at its Hiratsuka plant in Japan in 2007, with an initial monthly capacity of around 1,000 units.
