Fairchild Takes over System General for NT$ 6bln

System General, a Taiwan-based chip designer, confirmed on January 4 that it embraces the takeover plan offered by US-based Fairchild two days earlier for NT$6.32 billion (US$193.9 million; US$1 = NT$ 32.6) in cash. Under this deal, Fairchild will acquire System General's technologies in making power conversion chips for PCs, and chips for LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) monitors, printers, and other consumer offerings, while System General's 250 employees and management team will be transferred to Fairchild, continuing to operate under its existing name.
