LPL (LG Philips LCD) announced on September 30 that it has developed a new TFT-LCD (Thin Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Display) panel for use in ultra-slim mobile phones. The company stated that the new panel, reportedly the world's thinnest, is 1.3mm thick. It is 32% slimmer than existing TFT-LCD panels, which range between 1.9 and 2.9mm, and also slimmer than OLEDs (Organic Light-Emitting Diode), which range between 1.4 and 1.8mm.
