China Kicks off SM-PDP TV Production Line Construction

China's first SM-PDP (Shadow Mask Plasma Display Panel) TV production line is currently under construction by Nanjing Huaxian High-Tech, a joint venture between Southeast University, Nanjing Panda Group, and the Nanjing New and Hi-Tech Zone. The Chinese independently-developed SM-PDP technology employs metallic net instead of ceramic net, hence not only making for more even light source and clearer picture, but also cutting the price of SM-PDP TV by one third, compared with PDP TV. This SM-PDP TV production line, located in the Nanjing New and Hi-Tech Zone, is schedule for a pilot production of 10,000 units in 2007.
