SARFT to Test T-DMB Mobile TV Services in 2007
August 25, 2006
China's SARFT (State Administration for Radio, Film and Television) recently announced that it will officially conduct a trail test on mobile TV services adopting T-DMB (Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) standard in mid-2007 and will launch satellite DMB services in the first half of 2008. Meanwhile, two leading Chinese telecoms, China Mobile and China Unicom, are expected to sign an agreement with mobile phone makers in late August for handsets with mobile TV functions. Other than mobile phones, PDAs (Personal Digital Assistant) and MP4 (Media Portable) players will be able to receive DMB signals.
