Asus, Gigabyte to Form Motherboard, Graphic Card JV

Taiwanese Asus and Gigabyte announced on August 8 that they will set up a new joint venture, with a capital amount of NT$8 billion (US$244 million; US$1= NT$32.9). The company, of which 51% stake held by Gigabyte and 49% stake held by Asus, will manufacture Gigabyte branded motherboards and graphic cards, mainly for mid-range and high-end markets, and is scheduled to begin operations in January 2007. Asus also stated that it will continue to sell own-branded motherboards and graphic cards after the new JV is established.
