AMD to Acquire ATI for US$5.4 Bln

On July 24 AMD announced that it will acquire the world's second largest graphics chip maker ATI for US$5.4 billion. The acquisition is expected to be finalized in the fourth quarter of 2006. Both AMD and ATI's board of directors have approved the acquisition. The deal is subjected to ATI shareholder approval and several regulatory approvals. If the deal fails, ATI will pay AMD US$162 million as a termination fee.
