ECS Acquires Notebook PC Maker Uniwill
July 14, 2006
Taiwanese ECS recently announced it will acquire Uniwill, a Taiwanese notebook PC maker. The acquisition will involve a share swap with every two shares of Uniwill to be exchanged for one ECS share, and will be finalized on December 1, 2006. Uniwill's entire staff is to be transferred to ECS.

ECS had recently taken over Tatung's desktop PC unit, while Tatung became one of ECS's biggest shareholders. Now with the acquisition of Uniwill, ECS has established an industrial conglomerate spanning the desktop PC, motherboard, and notebook PC segments. Cost reduction and improved product competitiveness are both expected of ECS's expanded scale of operation.
