Lucent's R&D unit Bell Laboratories has signed an MoU with the city government of Seoul to build a R&D center in northwest Seoul, in the Digital Media City in Sangam-dong. The center is scheduled to start operating in early 2007. Approximately 20 to 25 researchers will be employed initially to conduct studies on areas such as wireless telecommunication and internet technologies, and digital convergence. Joint projects with Korean universities and state-run institutes are also planned.
