SMIC Reveals Details on New Wuhan Plant

Asia Express reported on May 19, 2006 that Chinese SMIC will be setting up a new plant in the city of Wuhan. Recently the company revealed new details on the 12-inch wafer facility, announcing that it will begin construction in 2006, and start production in late 2007 or early 2008. SMIC expects this plant to reach a monthly capacity of 25,000 units in two or three years after the start of production. The Wuhan government will also have a significant role in the project, investing US$1.5 billion to US$3 billion.
