Philips, SKT to Test NFC Technology in Korea

Philips recently announced that it will partner with Korean operator SK Telecom (SKT) to test NFC (Near Field Communication) technology on mobile phones in Seoul, Korea on a trial basis. The companies aim to simplify NFC development and deployment. A total of 400 people will participate in the trial, which will start in June 2006 and run for about 6 months. Hardware for the test will mainly be supplied by Philips, including NFC RFID chips for the mobile devices used in the trial. NFC is a technology developed by Sony and Philips for short-distance wireless connectivity in order to facilitate data exchanges between all sorts of consumer electronics devices.
